Dry Season Is Here!

By Dr Sheree Moore, Chiropractor

Adults joggingThe build-up is behind us, the humidity is dropping, and Darwin is coming alive again. Dry season is the time of year so many Territorians look forward to, with sunset walks, weekends at the markets, fishing trips, social sport, and finally getting stuck into the yard after months of wet season growth.

After a slower, more indoor wet season, it’s natural to want to jump straight back into everything. But when activity levels rise quickly, the body does not always keep pace as easily as we would like.

Why Discomfort Can Show Up

This is often the time of year when people begin noticing more tension, stiffness, or discomfort, especially through the back and neck. Getting back into golf or tennis can place extra demand on muscles and joints that are not yet used to twisting and repeated movement. Gardening and yard clean-ups often involve lifting, bending, and awkward positions for longer than expected.

Fishing and camping trips can also mean long drives, time on the boat, and lifting heavier gear. Even spending more time on your feet at markets and social events can highlight postural strain that was less noticeable during the wetter months.

How to Ease Back Into It

A more gradual return to activity can make a real difference. Building up over time rather than going all-in on the first cool weekend may help your body adjust more comfortably. Warming up before sport or yard work, lifting with care, varying tasks, taking short breaks, and staying hydrated can all support how your body feels as routines change.

Some people also choose to include chiropractic care as part of their general health approach during seasonal transitions. Chiropractic care focuses on the spine, joints, and nervous system, and may support overall movement and physical comfort as activity levels increase.

Dry season is one of the best parts of Top End living. With a little awareness, it’s easier to stay comfortable and enjoy the season ahead.
