The Role Chiropractors Play in Women's Health Today

mom and daughter smiling and huggingWomen’s health is changing – and not quietly. Conditions like endometriosis, hormonal migraines, pelvic pain, and menstrual irregularities are becoming more commonly discussed and are increasingly presenting in chiropractic settings. Understanding how these issues show up is becoming less of a niche interest and more a part of everyday clinical awareness.

“Women often come in carrying symptoms they’ve been told to just live with. Our role is to listen, consider the broader picture, and approach their health in a more personalised way.” — Dr Sheree Moore

Many women visit a chiropractor for musculoskeletal concerns that may follow patterns influenced by hormonal changes. Cyclical lower back discomfort. Sciatica that flares at certain times of the month. Headaches that seem to follow a pattern. These presentations can suggest that additional factors may be involved, and recognising these patterns can help guide appropriate next steps, including referral where needed.

Endometriosis, for example, is estimated to affect around one in 15 women of reproductive age, with diagnosis often taking several years. During this time, many women may already be seeking care for related discomfort.

The nervous system plays an important role in how the body processes discomfort and responds to internal changes. Chiropractors may assess how the spine and nervous system are influencing a woman’s overall experience, not to diagnose or manage these conditions directly, but to play a role within a collaborative approach to care.

A simple question, “Where are you in your cycle?”, can help uncover patterns and provide useful context for planning care.
