Dr Sheree Returns After a Restorative Overseas Adventure

dr sheree with camelA change of scenery can do wonders. After several weeks travelling through Central and South America, Dr Sheree is back in Darwin feeling refreshed, grounded, and genuinely grateful to be home.

Costa Rica to Panama: Slowing Down and Moving More

The trip began in Costa Rica, with warm mornings, ocean air, and plenty of time outside. Beach walks, wildlife spotting, and slower rhythms made it easy to remember how good regular movement can feel, even when it’s simple and unplanned.

From there, it was off to Panama for a sailing trip through the San Blas Islands. Days were filled with swimming, walking along soft sand, and soaking up the calm that comes when your phone signal drops out, and the horizon takes over.

“Being outdoors all day reminded me that our bodies are built to move, not just sit and scroll,” says Dr Sheree.

Colombia and Peru: Challenging Terrain, Better Perspective

Colombia brought the colour and history of Cartagena, and then the adventure continued into Peru. The Inca Trail and Rainbow Mountain offered a different kind of movement, steady climbs, uneven ground, and long days on your feet. The Amazon added its own twist, humidity, heat, and a slower pace that still asks a lot from your body.

It’s a useful reminder for everyday life back in Darwin. You don’t need a trekking permit to build better habits. A walk after dinner, a few mobility drills between meetings, or choosing the stairs now and then can add up over time.

What Travel Reinforces About Everyday Health

Across the trip, one theme stood out: consistent movement matters. Not perfect movement, just regular, realistic activity that fits your week. Pair that with sleep, hydration, and a bit of stress relief (even if it’s five quiet minutes in the car before school pick-up), and you’re giving your body a better base to work from.

Dr Sheree is back at NT Chiropractic Health & Wellness Centre and looking forward to seeing familiar faces again.
