Through her own rocky health journey as a child, Anita has an insight into the all-consuming effects of ill-health on the entire family dynamic and an understanding of the immense value of health as a way of life rather than a sequence of ailments and cures.

As a practitioner Dr Anita is enthusiastic about not only helping her patients get well but equipping them with the knowledge of how to maintain a lifetime of health and vitality. In particular, she has a special interest working with pregnant women, babies and children to ensure a more comfortable pregnancy for expectant mothers and a healthy start in life for their children!

Dr Anita is the only chiropractor in Darwin with postgraduate qualifications specifically in Chiropractic for Children. She also now enjoys teaching workshops on stress, pregnancy and raising ‘Switched On Kids.’

Anita learnt a lot about the effects of stress and sickness from a young age, watching her father struggle as he battled various illnesses until his untimely and unexpected death from a medical error when she was just 11 years old. She experienced the heavy stress this weighed down upon her immediate family and found herself growing up well beyond her years. She became `that kid'  - the one that was always sick, tired and generally unwell, but still able to function at an acceptable level. As a result, Anita has a firsthand understanding of the potential long term effects of certain childhood medications and the traumatic experiences of constant medical testing; recalling how these tests came one after another, often without any clear idea of exactly what each doctor hoped to find.

Throughout all of this, her health continued to deteriorate until she was finally diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and told that she would simply “have to live with it.” Never being one to give up, Anita refused to take no for an answer and hence emerged her curiosity for health and healing!

Anita is passionate about the chiropractic principles of healing because they are so beautifully simple and based on universal laws. Looking back, Anita realises that she was suffering – as so many others do – from the effects of a highly stressed childhood. Ironically, the more they strived to ‘cure’ her with medications, the greater her body’s stress load grew and hence the more her health declined. Her nervous system decided it had simply had enough (understandably so!) and went into shutdown mode; with it went her immunity. Her own experience assisted Anita to realise that medication, whilst sometimes necessary to manage a condition or disease, is not the answer to improving one’s overall health and wellbeing. This, she believes is based on the way we choose to live in every aspect of our lives on a daily basis.

It was this personal journey that was vital in shaping Anita’s core values. Her passion and hunger for knowledge is the catalyst for the continued learning she constantly pursues to not only continue to improve her own health but to share this knowledge to assist others in their journey towards health and vitality.

Anita graduated from Murdoch University in Perth with a double degree in Chiropractic (Honours) but, after a couple of years in practice, decided to further her education by completing a postgraduate diplomate in Paediatric Chiropractic.

During this time, outside of private practice, she spent many eye opening and enjoyable hours volunteering her services working with a lower socioeconomic Young Mums' group, compromising of women aged 14-22 and their children. It was these young women and their children, whom Anita saw as the “real heroes” in their own right, that fuelled her passion to do more with her career. Time with these women and undertaking post-graduate studies was the catalyst for when Chiropractic grew from simply a career for Anita, to part of her life's mission to help families live their best lives possible.

Anita is also a certified practitioner in dry needling, Graston technique and Kinesio-taping. She is a member of the Chiropractors' Association of Australia (CAA), Australian College of Chiropractic Paediatrics (ACCP) and International Chiropractic Paediatric Association (ICPA). She has worked in multiple practices across Australia before moving to settle in Darwin in 2014. During her years in practice she has also been pro-actively involved in both national and international Chiropractic mission trips, treated athletes in several international and national sporting events within Australia and just for fun both treated artists and played a supervisory role for chiropractic students at several major music festivals. Anita also now teaches workshops on stress, pregnancy and raising `Switched on Kids.' Visit our Speakers page for more information.
